Christian Burns was born ca 1828 in Pennsylvania, according to the 1870 Federal Census.

He was married to Elizabeth (Kitch) born, 1838. It is presumed that Christian met her in Ohio, this was the location of her birth, according to the information she gave the census taker. It is not known at this time, whether or not Christian's parents had also removed from Pennsylvania or whether he had struck out on his own way in life, thus meeting his future wife, along the way.
By the time the moved from Ohio to Kansas, the couple had three children Mary, Felix, Rebecca and Dennis.

At the time the Federal Census was taken in 1880, Christian and Elizabeth, were living in Shirley township, Cloud Co. Kansas, they may have been here from the time they moved to Kansas, however, the 1870 Census Index, gives only that location.

In 1880, Christian and Elizabeth, now have four younger children living at home, Charles, Maggie, and two unnamed infants, they are aged at 'O months' on the 1880 Census and most likely are twins.

On the 1880 Federal Census, Felix, Dennis, Mary and Rebecca are no longer living in the home of their parents. The
daughters, probably married or are working. Nothing, after the 1870 Census, has been found for Felix. He may have left home and traveled out of state as a young man, as he is not found on 1900 Federal Census for Kansas. (Dennis is found on later census records, married with children, living in Colorado).

Christian died on Sep. 15, 1885, leaving Elizabeth to raise the younger children. He is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Elizabeth lived until September 9, 1910, she is also buried in this cemetery.

After the death of her husband, Elizabeth is found on the 1900 Federal Census, living near San Juan River in Archulete, Colorado, in the home of her son, Felix and his wife Ann. Her son Charlie is also living in the home of his brother.
