Mr. Bridges retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, Plant Protection, after 39 1/2 years of service. He was a member of Victoria Christian Church and the former First Church Ministries.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Nora Lee Bridges; brothers, Tommy Bridges and Ralph Bridges; and grandson, Kyle Bridges, who died in Iraq.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Bridges; sons, Jimmy Bridges (Marcy) of Newport News, Rodney Bridges (Carol) of Poquoson, Jamie Johnson of Charleston, S.C.; daughter, Jerri Knight (Mark) of Houston, Texas; brothers, Harry Bridges (Martha) Seneca, S.C., Wayne Bridges (Cathy) of Tamassee; sisters, Evelyn Patterson (Gerald) and Debra Bridges, all of New Market, Tenn.; grandchildren, Daine Bridges, Cayden Johnson, Patrick Green, Samantha Green; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Peninsula Funeral Home, with Pastors Tag Kilgore and Earl Penchback officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc.
