Joseph Nathaniel (Than) Brown was buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery northeast of Fulton at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, March 20. Mr. Brown died at his farm home north of Fulton at 6 a.m. Monday morning, March 18, of a heart attack as he was doing his morning chores around his farm yard. He was 69.
The son of Lafayette and Cumi Stephens Brown, he was a member of one of the county's most prominent families. He was a farmer.
Services were held from the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Smith in charge. Assisting in the services were: Rev. Bonnie Pitts and Rev. Eugene Digby. Senter Funeral Home of Fulton was in charge of the burial arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Oscar Dulaney, Euffard Osbirn, Nathaniel Dulaney, Will D. Cantrell, Carl Comer, and Clin Beasely.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Valerie Brown; three daughters, Oral Dulaney and husband, Pernell; Opal Digby and husband Hollis; and Joy Dulaney and husband Tom, all of Fulton. Also surviving are two brothers, W. H. Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla., and J. M. Brown of Fulton, and four sisters, Mrs. Della Chamblee, Mrs. Eula Dulaney, and Mrs. Alice Moore of Fulton and Mrs. Ophelia Dulaney of Refugio, Texas.
