John Moudy volunteered to fight for the Confederacy: he enlisted on May 28, 1861 with the 14th Tenn. Inf. Reg., during the war he lost his thumb.
After the war John Moudy settled in Herrin Illinois and was a farmer. He and Martha had 6 children together. On 22 Mar 1916 John Moudy died from a celerbrel hemarage: he was 79 years 7 months 14 days old.
