Obituary: Ottumwa Courier, Ottumwa, Iowa, May 16, 1953:
Albia-- Mrs. Asa Ryan 78 of Hiteman died Friday afternoon at Smith Hospital after an illness of several months. The former Nellie Mae Lane, she was born eight miles south of Chariton June 10, 1874; the daughter of James Lane. Following her marriage she lived in several Iowa coal mining towns and her home had been in Hiteman for 37 years. Her husband, two sons and a daughter preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Ray Ryan of Pontiac, Mich., Thomas Ryan of Hiteman and Glen Ryan of Albia; a daughter Mrs. James Carter of Hiteman; six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren, also two brothers, William Lane of East Moline and Lewis Lane of Lemons Mo., and a sister Mrs. Mark Roark of Oelwein.
The body is at the Humeston funeral home. Services will be held there at 2 P.M. Monday. Burial will be in Oak View cemetery.
