EX-VERMILLION SHERIFF SUCCUMBS

Roscoe Russell, 1204 South Eighth street, former Vermillion County sheriff, mine official and Terre Haute business man died at 8.25 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Anthony Hospital.
Russell a member of the Among lodge No. 356, IOOF at Clinton, served as
sheriff of Vermillion County in 1914 and previously served a term as deputy sheriff.
He served as superintendent of the Clinton Water Works until 1920 and from 1920 to 1927 was superintendent of the Hickory Nut Mine near Cloverland.
From 1927 to 1942 Russell owned and operated the Russell Pie Factory here.
He is survived by the widow, Jennie K. Russell; one son, John Russell R. Russell of Arlington, Va; one sister, Mrs. Winifred Rubush of Indianapolis and four grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Martin Tearman Funeral Home where friends may call after 10 o'clock Sunday morning and where services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. R. Powell Mead will officiate and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Former Sheriff Of County Dies; Rites Conducted Monday

Roscoe Russell, former Clinton resident and Vermillion County sheriff, died Saturday at St. Anthony's Hospital in Terre Haute following eight months illness. His home was at 1201 South Eighth street in Terre Haute.
A resident of Terre Haute since 1921, Mr. Russell was sheriff of Vermillion County in 1914 and prior to that was deputy sheriff. An active Democratic party member the former resident was one of the first volunteer members of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Dept., coming to the department in 1904 and was one of the oldest ex-members of the local department.
Mr. Russell was a former superintendent of the Clinton Water Work Department and former mine official of the Hickory Nut Mine at Cloverdale. He has been retired since 1942 from the Russell Pie Factory which he formerly operated is Terre Haute.
Funeral services were conducted today at 2 p.m. at the Martin Tearman Funeral Home in Terre Haute. Rev. R. Powell Mead officiated at the services and burial was made in the Roselawn Memorial Park cemetery.
