JESSE GARDNER BEAN SUCCUMBS TO HIS WOUNDS Funeral Services Were Held at the Second Ward Meeting House Wednesday Afternoon Not only the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse F. Bean, but also all relatives and the entire community were sadly shocked when Jesse Gardner Bean died Monday after the pluck and courageous boy had so excellently stood the ordeals of the accidental shot that destroyed his arm and the amputation following. The boy fell victim to the accident Saturday afternoon, September 5, trying to knock down apples from a tree with the butt of his gun which he thought to be unloaded. The shot went off and lacerated his arm so severely that an amputation had to be performed immediately in the Richfield hospital. Gardner went through the operation bravely and with unusual pluckness and it looked like he would be restored to health in a short time. Sunday, however, he suddenly became weak, had a restless night, his wounded arm showed swelling and Monday morning the boy died, after having talked cheerfully to his parents for five minutes before he be lapsed into the eternal sleep. Jesse Gardner Bean was born August 24, 1912, in Salt Lake City. The baby was brought to Richfield shortly there after and lived all his life here. He attended our public schools and on his last sick bed his sister registered him for the upper grade of our Junior high school and brought his books in which the brave boy took a keen interest. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters; Helen and Iris, and three brothers, David G., Howard J., and Morris Lloyd. They all were at his bed side when he died and with them several uncles aunts and other relatives.Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the second ward chapel, Bishop W. A. Seegmiller officiating. Boy scouts-Gardner was a tenderfoot scout of troop 2-acted as pallbearers and took hold also of arranging the floral tributes which covered the bier in profusion. Judge H. N. Hayes and superintendent A. J. Ashman were vere the speakers. The ward choir directed by Mrs. Anna Callaway furnished the music. Mrs. Jas. M. Peterson and Kenneth Hood were the soloists. An enormous crowd followed the remains to the city cemetery, among them all boy scout troops of Richfield under the direction of scout executive W. B. Hawkins and the students of the junior high school led principal Phil Goldbranson. We will report the particulars of the funeral services in next weeks issue.
