Cecil Gardner Bean, 80, a former resident of Payson, died at a local rest home Tuesday of a lingering illness.
She was born December 24, 1888, in Indianola, Sanpete County, a daughter of Elias and Susanna Clarissa Seely Gardner. She married Jesse Fuller Bean on September 29, 1909. He died April 1, 1943.
Mrs. Bean received her early education in Payson. She lived in Thistle until her marriage. She also attended the Brigham Young Academy for a time.
Following her marriage, she and her husband made their first home in Richfield from 1909 to 1928. At this time they moved to Salt Lake City and Mr. Bean became employed as a promotional salesman. After his death she operated and owned a boarding house in Salt Lake City from 1942 to 1954.
In 1954 she moved to Lakewood, Ohio, to live with a daughter. From 1954 to 1966 she moved between Utah, California, and Ohio several times, spending time with each of her children.
She was an active member of the LDS Church.
Survivors include four sons and two daughters: David G. Bean, Santa Fe Springs, California; Byron B. Bean, Norwalk, California; Morris L. Bean, Pine Top, Arizona; George E. Bean, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lucian (Helene) Ray, Lakewood, Ohio; and Mrs. Andrew J. (Iris) Marcroft, Orem; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers and first sisters: Glen E. Gardner and Ernest Gardner, both of Helper; Ronald Gardner and Mrs. Paul D. (Thelma) Vincent, both of Provo; Mrs. Hazel Pope and Mrs. Maude Kane, both of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Victor E. (Virginia) Hedquist, San Bruno, California; and Mrs. Bessie G. Robbens, San Francisco, California.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Berg Mortuary in Provo. Burial will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.
