Minerva Fay (Faye) Lloyd is the daughter of Frethias Wall and Mary "Polly" Fay Neal Lloyd. She was the third daughter of ten known children (seven daughters and three sons) born to the above parents. She married William David Martin, son of Nathaniel Lang Jr. and Mary Ann "Polly" Landrum Martin in Arkansas around 1848.
Her siblings were: Sarah B. "Sallie" (John Cypert), Catherine Ann, Elizabeth (Elizira) C. (James Stout), William T., Unknown Daughter, Ruth, Mary, James Madison and Joseph Newton.
W. D. and Minerva, who was pregnant, along with four small children, one only seven or eight months old, joined the Baker-Fancher Wagon Train and headed for California in 1857. When they arrived in Utah in September, a coin was flipped and W. D. brought his half of the train to Northern California. The other half of the train, heading south, was slaughtered in what is known as the Mountain Meadow Massacre. This story was told many times and related to his family by W. D.
They settled first in Dogtown, Ca. which is known today as Magalia, Ca., finally settling on 160 acres on the Parrott Grant. After establishing a home and ranch at that location W. D. lost his ranch when several lawsuits were filed by people disputing the grants. He then settled in Germantown, now Artois, in Colusa Co., on another grant, eventually moving to Shasta, Plumas Co., Ca.
Minerva is buried on the Parrott Grant, now the Llano Seco with five of her Children in a small family cemetery under a giant oak tree. She lost one daughter in 1864, two sons and a daughter in 1866, she died in 1867 and another son died in 1870..
There is also a David Murphy buried there who died Sept. 16, 1863-Age 29 yrs. and a J. R. Taylor, aged 53, died May 23,1875. The State did not know the cemetery was there and it was quite damaged by someone running over it when plowing. The State then did extensive research on the family and reconstructed the cemetery and headstones as best they could. They never found my family but I was able to find them from notes my Grandmother left me that she made after visiting the cemetery many years before it was plowed over. The gentlemen at Colusi Co. Historical Society helped me find it. They were able to visit it along with Grace Collins from the Paradise Genealogical Society. Since it is a government preserve it can only be accessed with special permission.
The location of the cemetery is correct in the description but there is no city located there so I chose Artios. It is located in Glenn and Butte Counties in the Upper Butte Basin.
