Tennessee Dixie Martin was the last daughter born to W. D. Martin and Minerva Fay Lloyd. She was born on the Parott Grant on their ranch and land grant..for lack of a proper location I used Artois, which would have actually been Germantown at the time which is where the family ended up after their ranch was taken by John Parrott, They lived on the Parott Grant located south of Chico, CA., then a land grant in Artios and moved later to a grant in Shasta County.

W. D. and Minerva had nine children and lost all but four in a very short period of time. One child passed in 1864 and they lost three in 1866, Tennessee was born in 1866 and then Minerva passed in 1867, and they lost another son in 1870.

She was married to Frank Belew in Willows, August 1, 1888 and had two sons. Tennessee had a difficult life during and after her first marriage to Frank Belew. They eventually separated and had been separated for a while when he committed murder and was hung in Folsom Prison in 1898. She was hounded by the press and was drug into the trial as was her father, brother, sister and brother in law. This went on into 1901. She was listed on documents in February and March of 1901 as Mrs. William F. Kavanagh.

In 1900 Census I found her, as Tennessee Belew, and she is a servant in a boarding house in Redding, CA. She lists that she has two children, her two boys, Merritt and Ray, but they are not shown in the census. Then I lost track of her and I found her again, in 1902 Sacramento directory, managing a rooming house for her brother in law and sister, John W. and Ellen Martin Bradford Bird.

She had three more husbands. In order they are:

William F. Kavanaugh/Kavanagh February 1901 Confirmed

Richard M. "Dick" Slater After October 1910 Newspaper-Confirmed

Joseph Daniel Corrigan, aka: Daniel Joseph Corrigan and Joseph Daniel Grogan-(his true name) November 7, 1919 Confirmed-She married him twice.

Grogan died in a LA County hospital and LA County hospital took care to have him cremated.
