Vescie Brown McKenney, 99, of McComb, passed away, Friday, February 2, 2018 at her residence.
She was born December 22, 1918 in the Montgomery community of Lincoln County. She was the daughter of Edward Luther and Delia Prestridge Brown.

Mrs. Vescie was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb. She was the first of twelve children that received a high school education. She was a lady that was strong willed and believed deeply in her God. She truly loved her family the one thing that brought her so much joy and happiness were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also believed in making sure the elderly had food and were well cared for.

Mrs. Vescie favorite past time was quilting and was especially known for her embroidered quilts. Like so many, she endured much heartache in her lifetime, but always had a smile for those she came in contact with.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gilbert James McKenney; four sons, Mike, Philip, Lenox and Harris McKenney; two grandchildren, Charles Layton and Michael McKenney; son-in-law, Jimmy Morgan; five brothers, Louie, J.L., Earl, Loy and Lynus Brown and six sisters, Pluma Allred, Gladys Matthews, Flora Brown, Tressia Williams, Eva Nettles and Marzie Ford.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sharon McKenney of Farmville, VA; three daughters, Joyce Layton of Brandon, Corliss Morgan of McComb, and Dee Dee Hartzog of Flippin, AR; daughter-in-law, Donna Price McKenney of McComb; five grandchildren, Scott Layton and wife, Lisa of North Carolina, Lisa McKenney of Costa Mesa, CA, Patricia Milton and husband, Kohn of Kentwood, Eva Bass and husband, Neal and Dawn LeBlanc of McComb; five great-grandchildren, Thomas Milton, Catherine Milton, Madison LeBlanc, McKenna LeBlanc and Emma Bass and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Monday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS 39666 from 5PM until 8PM and continues Tuesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb from 1PM until funeral mass at 3PM with Father Brian Kaskie officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery.

Pallbearers are Wray Haskins, Emanual Verdia, Trey Young, Booger LeBlanc, Dennis Dunn and Ricky Lee. Honorary pallbearers are Neal Bass, Kohn Milton and Thomas Milton.
