Bob was born in Auburn on Sept 4,1925, the son of the late Lyle M. and Mary F. Kennedy Smithler
He was a resided in Weedsport for most of his life and had served in the navy during World War II.
He served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Tatum (APD-81). He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He owned and operated the former Smithler`s Garage of Weedsport and later owned and operated with his wife, St Johns Restaurant, Weedsport. He was a life member of the VFW Post No.8137 , Montezuma.
He is survived by his wife Naomi Wheeler Smithler of Auburn,whom he married June 8, 1979; two daughters; Georgianna (Al) Speck of Elbridge and Lynn (Dale) Smithof Lisle; three sons; Lyle (Theresa) Smithler of Weedsport,Robert (Virginia) Smithler of Cato, and Scott Smithler of Auburn; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Warner of Syracuse, two brothers, John Smithler of Arizona and James (Joan) Smithler of Cato; His first wife and mother of his children, Audrey Smithler; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday May 16, at the Jewell Funeral Home Inc., 8886 S. Seneca St. Weedsport.
Comittal Services will be held at the convenience of the family at at the Cato Union Hill Cemetery , Cato.
If desired, contributions may be made to charity of one` choice
