Born near Forest Grove January 14, 1871, Mr. Ranes was the son of John Taylor Ranes and Hanna Crabb, pioneer residents of Washington County. He spent almost his entire life in Forest Grove community, with exception of 21 year residence in the State of Washington. For many years Mr. Ranes farmed near Gales Creek. He married Jennie Hoodenpyl on July 1, 1903.
Mr. Ranes was a member of the Masonic lodge for over 50 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Scottish rite and Shrine and Past Master of Raymond and Kennewick, Wash. lodges.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie; a daughter, Mrs. Veda Banducci of Bakersfield, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Bennett of Portland and Mrs. Nettie Post of Rockaway, Ore.; two brothers, John of Gales Creek and Walter of Portland; granddaughter, Mrs. Barbara Gage of Ellensburg, Wash., and three great-grandchildren.
