Death claimed Scott Clarke, 82, prominent farmer and stockman for over half a century in Plymouth County, widely known stock buyer in northwestern Iowa and adjoining states, at the Sacred Heart Hospital shortly before noon Monday, following an illness of three weeks from influenza and infirmities of age.

Wren was born the son of John Woodcock & Ann Stevens Clarke in Green Lake County, WI, where he grew up. He came to Plymouth County in 1873 and bought eighty acres of land where the Union Township consolidated school stands. Farming in Union Township he bought more land and farmed successfully for over twenty years. He came to live in Le Mars and engaged in stock buying, being head of the Clarke, Mohan and Company firm for a number of years. Of late years he retired from business.

He was married March 4, 1880 to Mary Willis, of Janesville, MN, and they celebrated the fifty-sixth anniversary of their wedding last year.

He is survived by his wife and nine children who are: James Edgar (Mabel) Clarke, Iola (Walter) Aird, & Bessie (John) Langendorfer, of Le Mars; Walter (Grace) Clarke, of Elysian, MN; Kenneth (Louise) of Mound, MN; Gladys (Winthrop E.) Thurber, Winnipeg, Canada; Marion Elizabeth Clarke, San Francisco, CA; Doris (Charles E.) Paul, Muskogee, OK; Rev. Lloyd W. (Martha) Clarke, Athens, OH. There are sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He also leaves a brother, Copsley E. Clarke, of Le Mars, and three sisters, Mary Hoog, Salem, OR; Zoe Edwards, Auburn, CA; and Josephine Holmes, of Stockton, CA.

The funeral will be held at the residence Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F.P. Pfaltzgraff officiating. The body may be seen from 3 to 5 Tuesday afternoon at the Mauer mortuary chapel.
