Catherine Blocher

Catherine Bolinger, daughter of Soloman and Anna Bolinger, was born in Darke Co., Ohio, October 18, 1840 and departed this life July 21, 1914 aged 73 years, 9 mos. and 3 days.
She was united in marriage to Solomon Blocher October 28, 1860. To this union was born 12 children, five sons and seven daughters which were as follows: --Anna, Emanuel, Samuel, Harrison, Edmund, Ida, Minnie, Loutisha, Edith, John, Clara and one girl who died in infancy.
Their early married life was spent in Darke Co., Ohio until the year 1881 when they moved to Michigan and settled on the farm where they now live.
She with her husband united with the Brethren Church in 1862 and was a firm believer in her Church to the last.
In the summer of 1911 she became afflicted with anemia from which she never fully recovered. On Tuesday, July 7 she suddenly became worse, when gangrene set in, which caused much pain and suffering until the end came.
At different times she expressed her readiness to go if it was the Lord's will. She was a loving companion, a devoted mother and a kind neighbor.
She is survived by her husband, five sons, six daughters, nineteen grandchildren, one great grand-child, two sisters, one brother, one half sister, one half brother and a host of friends.

Oh, mother, mother, can it be
That we no more your face shall see?
The scalding tear unbidden starts,
No words can cheer our aching hearts,
That we are left here sad and lone,
And mother, dear mother has gone home.
Home to that beautiful land above;
Home to that Savior she tenderly loved
Home, to the friends awaiting her there.
Free from all sorrow, strife and care.
Finished a work that has been well done,
Gone to a Crown she has nobly won.

The Solomon Blochers lived 3 miles south of Woodland, MI and 1 mile west on corner of Coats Grove and Wellman Roads at the southwest corner. In 1914 Edmond and Ora Blocher went to Catherine Blochers funeral.

Hi eric I've been looking for Great grandma Catherine's obit but haven't found it yet. My Blocher file in my file cabinet is so thick I can hardly handle it. I know she died in July 1914 from TB and was very ill & suffered greatly. Wanted to tell you Jim and I seen Pete Schantz today in Richie's resturant today in Hastings. He runs a sporting goods store on South Jefferson St in Hastings. Stop in and visit him sometime & get aquainted as he says he doesn't know his Blocher cousins. He looks like the Blochers quite a bit and is quite friendly. He is Kenneth & Nora Schantz' son. They had another son Frederick Schantz who lives like a recluse. I have never seen Fredrick. All for now.............Jerilee PS Got to get to bed as we are going to Anderson IN tomorrow.
