OBITUARY
SOLOMON BLOCHER
Solomon Blocher, son of Samuel and Catherine Blocher, was born near Greenville, Darke Co., Ohio, November 22, 1838, and departed this life near Woodland, Michigan, November 15, 1926, aged 87 years, 11 months and 23 days.
On October 28, 1860, he was united in marriage to Miss
Catherine Bolinger, who preceded him to the better land July 21, 1914. To this union were born twelve children, five sons and seven daughters, all of who are living, except one daughter who died in infancy.
He with his wife united with the Church of the Brethren in 1862, and has since lived a consistent Christian life, sure and steadfast in his faith.
In 1881, he with his family moved to the farm home on which he has since resided.
On June 29, 1926, he was stricken with paralysis which caused his death.
Deceased was a kind father, a good neighbor and friend,
generous in his dealings, always ready to do what he felt was his duty.
He leaves to mourn their loss eleven children, twenty-one grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Beautiful toiler; thy work all done,
Beautiful soul into glory gone,
God giveth thee rest.
Rest from all sorrows and
watching and fears,
Rest from all possible sighing
and tears,
Rest thru God's endless
wonderful years---
At home with the blest.

From Jerilee Hostetler, 6 Sep 2001, by letter with a copy of an email she was trying to send:
When Soloman Blocher moved his family to Michigan from Ohio the four oldest boys drove wagons with teams of horses through to Michigan. It took them 3 weeks on the road (from Darke Co., Ohio to Barry Co., Michigan). That was Emmanuel, 18yrs; Samuel, 16 yrs; Harrison, 15 yrs; and Edmund, 13 yrs. They brought all their possessions which included furniture, cattle, and all they owned. The rest of the family came by train to Nashville, Michigan. This was in 1881. The girls were Anna, 20 yrs; Ida (my grandmother) who was 11 yrs; Malinda, 9 yrs; Lutitia, 8 yrs; Edith, 6 yrs; and John, 2 yrs and Soloman and Catherine. The baby Clara was born after they got to Michigan. Note: My mother, Clara Flory, was named after her Aunt Clara Blocher. PS Soloman had previously been to Michigan and had purchased 160 acres which they homesteaded. He was a hard working man according to Grandma Ida. They had an outdoor oven where they baked many loaves of bread at a time and had large gardens and potato patches.
