David Frederick Byrd, 54, died Saturday, April 14 at the Advanced Care Hospital of Southern New Mexico. David was born June 22, 1957 to Charles C. and Ann Vickers Byrd. Born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Dave attended Oklahoma State University where he was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He returned home to Las Cruces to manage his family's pecan farm and started his own custom farming business. He was a passionate photographer and a committed community volunteer, dividing his service between human and wildlife search and rescue, Las Cruces High School athletics and any activities his sons were involved in at the time. He also served his fellow farmers as an officer of WIPGA and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild.

David is survived by Sherri, his wife of 32 years; two sons, Jason Byrd and his wife Angelica, of Springfield, Virginia; Nicholas Byrd, US Navy, currently serving aboard the USS Bunker Hill. He is also survived by his mother, Ann V. Byrd of Mesilla Park; one brother, John and his wife Margaret, of Mesilla Park; two sisters, Tamara Spooner and her husband Kevin, of Placitas, and Lillian, of Carlsbad. Nieces and nephews include Beckie Urban and her husband Don, of E. Wenatchee, Washington; Tammi Roberts and her husband Cliff, of Lacy, Washington; Gene Brown II and his wife Ashley, of Las Cruces; Lindsey Byrd, of Newport Beach, California; Madison Byrd and Jacob Byrd, both of Mesilla Park; and Abigail and Samuel Spooner, of Placitas.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Byrd and his son Michael Byrd. Since David never met a stranger – many, many loving friends also survive him.

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, at 2:00 o'clock, at St. Paul's Methodist Church.
