Phyllis Jennings VanDerpoel , 80, widow of H. Eugene "Gene" VanDerpoel of Sheshequin, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, N. Towanda.
Born March 22, 1932 in Ulster Township, she was a daughter of the late Frank Jennings and Dorcas Daisy Brown Jennings. On July 25, 1953 Phyllis married H. Eugene "Gene" VanDerpoel in the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church. Phyllis's life encompassed her home and family. Phyllis and Gene provided care for foster children in their home for many years.
Surviving are her children, Daisy (Bill) Park of Sheshequin and Kevin (Sally) VanDerpoel of Sheshequin; a foster daughter, Charlotte Jean Shedden of Troy; grandsons Bradley (Jennifer) Park of Sayre, Scott (Jess) VanDerpoel of Ulster and Brandon VanDerpoel of Sheshequin; great-grandchildren Holly and Will Park of Sayre and Hunter and Caden VanDerpoel of Ulster; foster grandchildren Ashley Shedden and Casey Shedden; a brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Alicia Jennings of Sheshequin; a sister-in-law, June Jennings of North Towanda; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years on Aug. 31, 2004, two sisters, Helen Gates and Alberta Morley, a brother, James Jennings and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and LaVerne Harvey.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Bowen-Farr Funeral Home, 6 Gordon Farr St., Ulster.
Interment will be private in the Sheshequin Valley Cemetery, Sheshequin Township. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that contributions be directed to the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Association, or to the Tri-Township Ambulance Association in care of Karen Bixby, 1899 Ghent Hill Road, Ulster, Pa. 18850 in memory of Phyllis Jennings VanDerpoel.
