James F. "Jim" Jennings, 82, of Towanda RR1, N. Towanda Twp., Pa., passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington Twp., Pa.

Jim was born in Ulster, Pa., on June 10, 1928, the son of the late Frank Jennings and Dorcas Brown Jennings. He attended school in Ulster and later served in the U.S. Army in Japan during World War II. Following completion of his military service, he returned home to be employed by the Ulster Creamery where he advanced to the position of manager. On May 20, 1950, he married the former Wilma June Sluyter at the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church. Jim was subsequently transferred to the Columbia Cross Roads Creamery where he served as manager for a time and then returned as manager to the Ulster facility.

In later years, Jim worked on his father-in-law's farm at Sugar Creek and was also employed as a union carpenter until his retirement.

Jim was a life member of the North Towanda United Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years. He was also a member of Carpenters Union Local 645, Scranton Pa., and Beirne Webster VFW Post No. 1568, Towanda. In early years, Jim was an active in youth fellowship at his church, 4H, bowling and coached softball. Jim and his wife Wilma June hosted the Jennings family reunion for over 35 years.

He is survived by: his devoted wife of 60 years, Wilma June Jennings at home; brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Alicia Jennings of Sheshequin, Pa.; sister, Phyllis VanDerpoel of Sheshequin, Pa.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Gates and Alberta Morley.

The funeral service will be held at noon Monday, June 21, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with the Rev. Jean Montgomery, pastor of the North Towanda United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa., with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Monday morning at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the North Towanda United Methodist Church in care of Jake Guffey, Treasurer, RR 1 Box 297, Towanda, PA 18848 in James F. Jennings memory.
