Marie "Mary" Sarah Caroline Harrigfeld Griffel, of Ashton died Monday, March 22, 1999, at the Stillwater Community Hospital in Columbus, Montana. Mary was born October 5, 1903, in Squirrel to Christian and Augusta Schaefer Harrigfeld. She lived all her life in the Ashton area, moving to Columbus just six years ago to be near her son. She married William Frederick Griffel who died in 1958. She had been a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton. She loved to farm. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and enjoyed dancing when she was young. She especially loved her grandchildren, who though she was the greatest. She is survived by her two sons, William C. [Anne] Griffel of Columbus, and Donald R. Griffel of Halfway, Oregon.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Bill, George and Earnest Harrigfeld, and three sister: Elsie Orme, May Clause and Clara Williams. Funeral services were held Monday, March 29, at the Ashton Christian Fellowship in Ashton.
