Herbert Walters passed away May 20 at home in Grass Valley with his friend and traveling companion, Betty Fuller, by his side. He was 87. Mr. Walters was born on July 10, 1919, in Brush, Colo. His German parents immigrated from Russia to the United States in the early 1900s. In the 1960s and '70s, Mr. Walters worked at Heavenly Ski Resort as a hill manager building large trams and resort buildings. He was a master builder and craftsman. After retirement, he built decks and completed other projects for neighbors. Mr. Walters enjoyed dancing, fishing and traveling in his recreational vehicle throughout Northern California, Canada and Mexico. Mr. Walters is survived by his brothers Ray of Texas, and Ken of Lincoln; sisters Helen of Idaho, Esther of Colorado, and Ruth and Alma of San Diego. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Wanda, who died in 1999, and his brother, George.
