OBITUARY :
Born the second child of the late Melvin G. and Mae Anna (Funk) Ridge on Sunday, Oct. 14, 1923, she passed into eternity to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 16, 2012.

She attended Winter Street Elementary, Woodland Way Junior High, and was a 1941 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She enjoyed spending her childhood vacations with grandparents in Edgemont, Md., and St. Davids Church, Va.

She was employed by the R & G Store, Colonial Hardwood Flooring, and owned and operated Hoover Electric Service for more than 40 years with her husband, Charles E. Hoover Jr., whom she married April 19, 1946.

A 76-year member of Grace (United Brethren, Evangelical United Brethren) United Methodist Church, she heartily enjoyed teaching Sunday school for more than 50 years, serving on various boards and committees, working on fundraisers, and as a visiting Care Bear.

Her passion was music, as she sang with choirs and ensembles for more than 60 years. She played piano for the Junior Department for 50 years and was presently accompanying the men's chorus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Trooper 1st Class Lauren M. Ridge, Vincent R. Ridge and Cpl. Kenneth L. Ridge; and sister, D. Elaine Sipe.

She is survived by her son, Lauren E. Hoover, Hagerstown; daughter, Christa A. Hoover, Maugansville; grandson, R. William Stewart IV and wife, Adrienne, Hedgesville, W.Va.; sisters, Gladys M. Ridge, Walkersville, and Linda V. Bartles, Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

A lifelong animal spoiler, she is survived by Mandy, Josephine and Dewey.

A funeral service will be held in conjunction with the memorial service of her brother, Cpl. Kenneth Lee Ridge, Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior at the church.

The family respectfully requests the omission of flowers and suggests contributions to Living Waters Christian School, P.O. Box 259, Big Laurel, KY 40808; Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268; or Grace U.M. Church Radio Ministry, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
