Ada was born April 30, 1932 in Bone Gap, Illinois to Bessie (McFerran) and Elmer Schwartzlose.
She retired after working 23 years at Champion Laboratories. Ada was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Albion American Legion Post 590 and a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Albion VFW Post 8222. She married Max Chapin in Rockport, Texas on December 7, 2001, and he survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Ronda (Larry) Smoot of Albion, Illinois and a son, Leon (Terri) Compton of Westville, Illinois; 3 step-daughters, Judith (Mike) Fleck of Carmi, Illinois, Candace (Wayne) Thacker of Albion, Illinois and Melody (Ron) Hallam of Albion, Illinois; one sister, Audrey Patterson of Arkansas; one brother, Emmitt (Mary) Schwartzlose of Parkersburg, Illinois and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Schwartzlose of Patoka, Indiana. Ada is also survived by grandchildren Chad Compton, Joe Compton, Josh (Myanne) Compton, Brenna Juenger, and Amy Roach; step-grandchildren Kim St.Ledger, Janet (Les) Slunaker, Carla (Kyle) Bailey, Misty (Kris) Robinson, Dustin (Shannon) Mann and Ronika (Cory) Gill. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, previous husband Harold Huff; two brothers, Nelson and Melvin Schwartzlose; one half-sister, Bonita Evans and an infant son, Monty Ray Compton.
