Son of John Armistead and Amy (Powell) Armistead. Born in Greene County, GA. Married Drusilla Beard circa 1841. Lived in Pontotoc Co., MS (1845 state census, 1850 and 1860 censuses) and later in Desoto Co. MS (1870 & 1880 censuses). Together they had 12 children.

Per Findagrave contributor Tim Harrison (47536026) - Thomas Armistead was a Confederate veteran - a private in Captain Weatherall's Company, Mississippi State Troops, aka Co. A, Harris' Battalion, Mississippi State Troops.
