Maxine Barnhard, age 79 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Fred & Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. Maxine was born on July 6, 1931 to Albert L. and Wilma G. (Wantz) Barnhard. Maxine graduated from Fremont High School in 1949 and later received her Masters Degree from Western Michigan University. Maxine had been a school teacher at Smith Country School and Grand Haven Public Schools and later became the librarian at the Oakridge High School in Muskegon for many years until her retirement. Maxine was a member of the Fremont Christian Disciples of Christ Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. Maxine enjoyed family genealogy, quilting and sewing, reading, feeding the birds and wildlife in her yard. Maxine enjoyed her teaching years and attending the meetings of the retired school teachers association.

Maxine is survived by her sisters and brothers, Lincoln Barnhard of Fremont; Arthur (Linda) Barnhard of Fremont; Esther (James) Hansen of Holton; Susan (Tim) Cowles of Holton; Lois (Ken) Wolters of Twin Lake; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins; her aunt, Jerry Lummen of Newaygo. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Barnhard; sister-in-law, Gloria Barnhard; and great-nephew, Michael Barnhard.

VISITATION : Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 1:30-3:00 pm at the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ. FUNERAL SERVICES : Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 3:00 pm at the Fremont Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. INTERMENT : In the spring of 2011 at the Lincoln Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Christian Church, Disciples of Christ Memorial Fund or Fremont Area District Library.
