Daniel Williams was born at Wrexham in Wales around the year 1643. He was a preacher before he was nineteen, taking a post for many years as a Presbyterian minister with the congregation at Wood Street in Dublin, Ireland. He married in 1675 and gained considerable wealth through his marriage. When the political situation in Ireland became too difficult he moved to London where he preached at Bishopsgate for the rest of his life. The writings of Dr. Williams are mainly sermons and pamphlets on theology. His greatest legacy, stated in his will, was the foundation of the Daniel Williams' Theological Library in Redcross Street, a public library with 30 000 books, for the use of Dissenters. Dr Williams' Library is still open, but now at 14 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0AR. Web site: http://www.dwlib.co.uk/dwtrust/williams.html. He died at the age of seventy-two, on the 26th January, 1716, and was buried in the unconcecrated cemetery of Bunhill Fields, where many famous Dissenters are buried.
