Dr. Michael L. Gidcomb, a Dallas pulmonologist who practiced at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake, passed away June 3, 2011 due to complications resulting from a heart attack suffered in December 2008. He was born June 29, 1945, in Memphis, TN to Charles W. and Ann D. Gidcomb. Michael is preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, Ann Gidcomb, of Hot Springs, AR; his wife, Nancy Lites Gidcomb, daughter, Carrie White and granddaughter, Estee White, all of Dallas; brothers Jim Gidcomb, of Hot Springs, AR, John Gidcomb, of Los Angeles, CA, Tad Gidcomb, wife Vel and niece Jenna of Dallas; nephew Jimmy Gidcomb, wife Melynda and great-niece Molly Margaret of Hot Springs. Michael was raised in Hot Springs, graduating from Hot Springs High School, Hendrix College, Conway, AR, and the University of Arkansas Medical School, Little Rock. He then came to Dallas and completed his internship, residency and fellowship at Methodist Hospital. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, and Pulmonary Medicine and was a Fellow of the College of Chest Physicians. He practiced primarily at Doctors Hospital for 30 years as Director of the Critical Care Unit and the Respiratory Therapy Department. Michael enjoyed teaching, was passionate about patient care, and was an advocate for patients' rights and dignity. He cared not only for his patients, but also for his colleagues, nurses and the hospital staff, by whom he will be greatly missed.
