Little Falls April 20 - Samuel Casler one of the best known farmers in Herkimer county, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by shooting himself.
Casler evidently was temporarily insane as a result of worriment over politics. He was the leader of the "Anti" forces in this weeks Republican fight in the town of Little Falls and was much concerned over his defeat. After the caucus Tuesday he went to Herkimer and notwithstanding his defeat was given every insurance of good will from his fellow leaders and he was a factor at the convention at Herkimer Wednesday.
Yesterday he appeared to be in good humor and donning his hunting clothes and boots started out after game. When he reached a knoll a short distance from his house he committed the fatal act. Death was instantaneous.
Mr. Casler was 43 years old and well-to-do. He leaves a widow and three children. The funeral will be held from his late home in Jacksonburg Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The remains will be taken to Herkimer for burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
