Evelyn Scheck, 95, died April 5, 2012 at St. Johns Long Term Care, Hays, Kansas. She was born June 26, 1916 at Walker, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew J. and Barbara (Von Feldt) Scheck. She married Pete J. Scheck November 21, 1938 at Walker. He died March 19, 2004. A Hays resident since 2004, coming from Great Bend, where she had resided since 1941, Mrs. Scheck was a sales clerk for Big A Auto Parts and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Scheck was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella, all of Great Bend. She was a hospice volunteer and a foster parent to more than twenty-five children.

Survivors include one son, Larry Dean Scheck and his wife Barbara, San Diego, California; one daughter, Gloria McCormick and her husband Kenny, Hays, Kansas; one brother, Julius Scheck, Great Bend; one sister, Mary Ann Elliott, Teaque, Texas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jane Brown; six brothers, Andrew Scheck, Richard Scheck, Ray Scheck, John Scheck, infant Joseph Scheck, and Severeign Scheck; and three sisters, Amelia Lange, Helen Woodward, and Regina Miller.

Altar Society Rosary will be at 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Vigil Service and Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 5:00 p.m., Monday, at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Reginald A. Urban will be celebrant. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to St. Johns of Hays, in care of the funeral home.
