Catherine married a widower, James Livingston Cox, of Essex County, Virginia. James Cox was a native of New York and a descendant of the Livingstons of that state. His daughter by his first marriage married John Catlett Bowie, Catherine's brother. They moved to White Point (now Colonial Beach) Virginia and later lived in Alexandria. He finally settled on a farm near Washington Academy, a short distance from Alexandria. He died there and left the place to his wife Catherine. Catherine decided to return to "The Hill" the home of her brother, Walter Bowie, where she died in 1870, having no children. She was a woman of diversified attainments, a brilliant conversationalist and devoted to flowers and literature.
