Robert was the youngest son of James and Catherine Bowie. He was raised at his parents home, "The Hill."He inherited a farm after his father's death near Guinea Station, where he lived until his death occurred in 1846. At one time he decided to go west. He left home and reached St. Louis, Missouri, but by that time his love for home and Virginia overcame his desire for the west. He returned to Virginia and never left. A very religious man, a constant student of the Bible, and a zealous member of the Campbellite Church. A great walker and would frequently walk to his brother's near Port Royal. Was twice married. Had three children by his first wife and one child by his second.
