Peter Franklin Ellington

My dad was born on July 4, 1899 in Madison co., Illinois as Peter Franklin Ellington. He continued to use this name when the family moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Detroit, Michigan about 1916 and when he registered for the draft in 1917. In about 1919, he went to work for Fisher Body as Peter Franklin Ellington.

In June, 1922, he married his first wife, Louva M. (nee Roberts) Faust in Detroit, Michigan, her second marriage his first. She was 28, he was 22. With her daughter, Edna from her first marriage, they were a ready made family.

On Sept.19, 1923, his first child, Betty Ruth Ellington was born in Charlottesville Hancock Co., Indiana. But just four months later on Jan. 11, 1924 she died. According to her obituary published in 'The Banner' Jan. 18, 1924 page 4, she is buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Charlottesville Hancock Co., Indiana. Obit list his name as 'Frank'.

On Sept. 17, 1924, Mary Ellen (Ellington) Kaufhold was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His second child.

On March 18, 1926, he again went to work for Fisher Body, this time in St. Louis, Missouri as Frank P. Ellington but everyone allways knew him as Pete.

On Dec. 6, 1926, his first wife, Louva died due to complications from surgery. Her death certificate states her body was to be shipped to Greenfield, Indiana. According to her obituary published in 'The Banner' Dec, 24, 1926 page 5, she is to be buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Charlottesville Hancock Co., Indiana

In June, 1927 he married Helen Beatrice Deatherage at Grace Hill Episcopal Church, St. Louis, Mo. this was her first and only marriage, his second. She was 20, he was 27. Quickly the children came: '28 - James, '30 - Edward, '32 - a son, still living (11/04/2018), '34 - Dorthy, '38 - a son, still living (11/04/2018), '39 - June. In Aug., 1940 Helen passed due to complications from gallbladder surgery.

In 1942, he married Genevieve (nee Dickenson) Klement, this was her second marriage and his third. She was 37, he was 42. She had Mildred, a 17 year old daughter from her first marriage. 1947 saw the birth of their only child, my sister, Carol Ann (Ellington) Beckmann (still living (11/04/2018)). In Feb., 1951 Genevieve passed due to a cerebral accident caused by cancer of the bowl.

in Dec.1952, he married Virginia R. (nee Bonnerat) Wiegert, This was her second marriage and his forth. She was 32, he was 53. She had two daughters from her first marriage. I came along in Oct. 1953, Frank P. Ellington Jr., still living (11/04/2018).

In Dec., 1951, he recieved a gold watch from Fisher Body for 25 years of service. He wore this watch everday until he died.

Then in Feb., 1962 he retired from Fisher Body after 36 years of service.

'Pete' Ellington passed in Oct., 1973. Proceeded in death by 3 wives and 2 children, surviving were 8 living children, 30 grandchildren, two stepdaughters that called him 'Daddy', and 7 step grandchildren who called him 'Grandpa'.
