Thomas Ackerman, 77, of Rt. 4, Clare, died May 30 at the Clare Osteopathic Hospital. He had been ill for more than a year.

He was born Sept. 10, 1894 in Wise Township of Isabella County. He was married in 1914 to Margaret Leichti who died in 1968. He had been a farmer and life resident of the Clare area. He was also a member of the Isabella County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Archie (Hazel) Beatty of Clare, Mrs. Elsworth (Frances) Chaffee of Stirling; Mrs. Earl (Doris) Eisenhauer of Arizona, Mrs. Frank (Margaret) McPhall of Clare, Mrs. Henry (Bernice) Eberhart of Clare; one son, Neil of Florida; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry of Clare and Frank of Hubbard Lake; four sisters, Mrs. Hilda Verrette of Clare, Mrs. Dale Stough also of Clare, Mrs. Gene Bowland of Higgins Lake, Mrs. Wilson Sanborn of Clare.

Twin sons and two sons, Charles and Thomas preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Stephenson-Doherty Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Winegar officiated and burial was at Cherry Grove Cemetery. (Clare Sentinel, p.2 – Clare, MI – 7 June 1972)
