Cecil A. Chadbourne, 90 years old, of Country Club Road #3, died Friday evening March 29, 2002 at his home.

He was born on August 17, 1911 in N. Berwick, ME, the son of Wilbert and Isabella Andrews Chadbourne.

He attended N. Berwick schools. During WWII he drove a bus to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and was an air raid warden. For many years Mr. Chadbourne worked as a poultry farmer in N. Berwick, and in 1939 he purchased a farm on Oak Hill in Sanford and built a large hen house. He raised chickens, sold eggs, and dressed poultry until retiring in 1977. Many residents of the Sanford / Springvale area will remember Cecil for his chicken barbecues. Mr. Chadbourne also worked for a brief time at the former Goodall – Sanford Textile Mills.

Mr. Chadbourne was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Sanford. In 1925 he joined the Bauneg Beg Grange, and served as Master for three years, and recently received his 75th year award. In 1994 he received the grange award for outstanding community service. He was member of Preble Lodge AF & AM, Kora Temple, York County Shrine Club and was a past president of the Pioneer Club. Mr. Chadbourne was a charter member of the Shiners' "Renegades", and a member of the Sanford / Springvale Rotary where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also volunteered his time for many years delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels program.

Predeceasing him in April of 2000 was his wife Josephine Sawyer Chadbourne, and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Edith) Pickett.

Surviving are his two sets of twin daughters, Mrs. Theodore (Joyce) Gardner of Saco and Mrs., David (Jean) Gardner, Mrs. Bruce (Noreen) Roberts and Miss Nancy Chadbourne all of Sanford; a son Wilbert "Bill" Chadbourne of Sanford, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A period of visitation will be held on Monday, April 1,2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM with a Masonic service to be held at 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale. On Tuesday April 2,friends are invited to attend a 1:00 PM funeral service at the Heald Funeral Home, The Rev. Ginny Gass officiating.
