To Be Honored at Saturday Fete
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brown, 19950 Santa Maria Avenue, Castro Valley, today are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary and making plans for a Saturday reception in their honor, hosted by their children.
The Browns were married Nov. 21, 1906 in Provo, Utah, her home town. Brown is a native of Kansas. He is 72 and she, 67 years of age. Both are in good health and active in church affairs.
In the early years of their marriage, Brown was employed as receiving and distributing agent for the US Reclamation Service during the building of the Strawberry reclamation project in Utah. Later he was engaged in stock raising and farming as foreman for Knight Investment company in Duchesne, Utah.
In 1937 they moved to Cedar City in Southern Utah where he became foreman of bridge and construction work for the state road commission.
In the same year Mrs. Brown was district director of Women's Professional and Welfare projects in Southern Utah, having ten counties under her jurisdiction. She held the office until 1943. Coming under her supervision were school lunch programs, canning, sewing, nursery schools and related projects.
The move to California was made in 1943. Both have retired from active vocations but participate in church welfare and recreation work. Mrs. Brown is a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and has served two years as president of the local camp.
They are the parents of three sons, William Joseph, of Los Angeles, Grant Arthur, Oakland and Robert, of Eureka, Calif. They have five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The Saturday reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hill and Valley clubhouse. All their sons and their wives will be in attendance and many of their grandchildren, in addition to Brown's brother and two nephews from the Sacramento area, and her brother Boyd Strong, Mt. Eden and nephew, Ernest L. Strong of Castro Valley."
