Jane Fairbrother's family arrived in Canada aboard a man-o-war following a 14 week voyage. Her father William, a driver and gunner in England's Royal Artillery, and mother Sarah Rebecca George and older siblings were headquartered in Montreal, where she was born. Her father was dismissed from service due to illness in 1849 and following her brother John's birth in 1850, the family relocated to the west, where her father purchased five acres in lot 4, concession A, London township, Ontario. On Jan 16, 1872, Jane married Otto J. Kannengiesser, a cooper by trade. The couple had four children, Minnie, Charles, Clara and Alice. Jane died March 11, 1884 following a two year battle with consumption, now known as tuberculous.

When first posted this manager thought her burial was at Gore Cemetery, London, Ontario. It is suggested that her final resting place is Mount Pleasant in the same city.
