LCDR Billie Dixon, 88, passed away on March 30, 2012 in his Coppell, Texas home. He was born on April 01, 1923 in Mound, Texas to Earl & Carrie (Bond) Dixon along with his twin brother. LCDR Dixon was the epitome of a patriot and a member of "The Greatest Generation" He spent 26 years with the US Navy serving in World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War that included flights from three different aircraft carriers and flew thousands of hours throughout the world during the "Cold War". During his naval career he received training/ education at the University of Texas, Baylor University and the University of Georgia. LCDR Dixon logged over 19,000 flight hours in twenty six different aircraft during his long Naval and civil aviation career. His long career as a pilot included serving his country as a fighter pilot, dive bomber pilot, test pilot, global transport pilot, and an instructor/ inspector pilot in large jet aircraft. Upon retirement from the US Navy LCDR Dixon went to work for the FAA for over 30 years. LCDR Dixon served as check pilot who participated in the certification of thousands of both civilian airline (primarily American Airlines) and military pilots/ flight engineers. LCDR Dixon had been a resident of Coppell since 1983 where he was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, and nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Glendel Dixon of Coppell; children, Patricia Dixon Davenport, Debi Dixon Waltz and husband, Don of Coppell; Rhonda Dixon Oesterle and husband, Andy of Encinitas, CA; David Dixon of Irving, TX; and Richard S. Dixon and wife, Ann of Superior, CA; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, April 02, 2012 at Restland Coppell Chapel from 6:00PM -8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 03, 2012 at 11:00AM at First United Methodist Church of Coppell. Military Honors and internment will follow at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center in Coppell, TX.
