Olivia Amy Kendall, 91, of Pembroke, departed this life for her heavenly home, Palm Sunday morning, April 1, 2012 in the care of Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rich Creek. Born in Tazewell County on May 11, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Henry M. and Levada Sutphin Marshall. Olivia was a faithful and devoted Christian and member of Bethel Chapel Church in Clendennin. For over thirty years she taught the Adult Sunday School Class after teaching younger classes for several years. She was active in all the church activities and especially liked to fill the table with her creations at fellowship dinners and such but her place of excellence was on her knees in prayer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James D. (Jimmy) Kendall; her seven brothers Marchie, Hyman, Levi, Roby, Ted, Ancel and Sam Marshall; and her three sisters Winters Sarver, Dovie Boswell, and June Marshall.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son and his wife Pastor Eddie and Fern Gilmer Kendall of Pembroke; her granddaughters and their husbands Odessa and Eric Gordon of Kernersville, NC, Demetria and Pastor Ward Harris of Pembroke, Ashley Dale Kendall of Pembroke; her great-grandchildren Benjamin Harris, David Harris, and Kendall Harris, Joseph Gordon and Daniel Gordon; and a large and loving church family and friends from her Ladies Bible School in Blacksburg; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Bethel Chapel in Clendennin with Pastor Eddie Kendall, Pastor Ward Harris, and Pastor Melody Price officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, in Pembroke Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Flowers will be appreciated but the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Chapel in Olivia's name. Olivia's family is most grateful for the loving and excellent care given her at Riverview Nursing and Rehab. Center in Rich Creek.
