Franklin B. Chesebro Chilton Times February 26, 1910

VETERAN DIES – Franklin B. Chesebro Succumbs After a Long Illness
On Thursday morning, Feb. 24, 1910, Franklin b. Chesebro died at this home on Madison street after a prolonged season of illness and suffering, aged seventy-seven years, five months and ten days. Mr. Chesebro's death was the result of a complication of diseases some of which he contracted in the service during the civil war and from which he has suffered more or less since. He failed rapidly in health for the past two years and lately he been confined to his home and continuously under a physician's care.
Franklin B. Chesebro was born in Norwich, Chenango County, N. Y., Sept. 14, 1832. At the age of sixteen years he came west with a cousin, the late Nicholas Chesebro, who settled in Chilton in 1848. He remained here only a short time and then returned to New York state. In 1851 he again came to this place and remained about a year, returning to his home in the east where he was married on April 18, 1855 to Cornelia Handson. The following year they came west and located on a small farm a half mile north of this city where they remained until the fall of 1907 when they disposed of the same and moved into town. During the civil war Mr. Chesebro served in Company H of the Seventeenth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was a good soldier and patriotic citizen.
In private life he was social and companionable, his home in the early days being the center of sociability and good cheer. He was a lover of music and in the pioneer days he and his cousin furnished dance music for all the gatherings of this section. He was also a great lover of nature, hunting, trapping and fishing being among his chief pleasures and there was no better posted man in that line in this vicinity.
He was the father of two children, Alice and Lora, now Mrs. Otto DeVoss, the former dying in early womanhood. Mr. Chesebro was widely known in this county and all feel that by his death the community loses a good man, honest, conscientious and kind.
He is survived by a widow, one daughter, Mrs. DeVoss, four grandchildren, Frederick, Meta and Irene DeVoss of this place and Mrs. Wm. Heft of New Holstein. He also leaves one great grandchild, Violet Heft.
The funeral will be held from the family residence on Madison street this Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, Rev. W. A. Arpke officiating.
