He was born Feb. 13, 1915, at Chattanooga, OK, the son of Charles and Virginia Culpepper Pittman. He graduated from Kaw City High School in 1934. He married Rosetta W. Rumsey on April 28, 1937 in Russell, KS. She proceeded him in death on February 14, 1998. A Lyons resident since 1940, he came to Kansas to work for Shell Oil Company and was the owner of Lyons Bowl.
He belonged to First Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was former Mayor of Lyons, founder and chairman of the Ly-Kan Hotel Committee. He was a former boy scout leader, member of the Masonic Lodge, and a 32nd Degree Mason, all of Lyons. He was a member of the Isis Shrine in Salina, KS.
Survivors include one son, Gerald "Bud" and Tomisha Pittman of Andover, KS; one daughter, DiAnna Sue and Alan Collison of Wichita, KS; two brothers, Charles Pittman of Ponca City, OK and Kenneth Pittman of Dell City, OK, and three sisters, Jewell Dewsnup of Gridley, CA, Geraldine Miller of Salina, KS, and Mildred Stafford of Ponca City, OK; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was also preceded in death by one brother Orval Lee Pittman, and sister, Mary Jo Pittman.
Services are at 2 pm Friday.
