Carol A. Gustum, 74, Chetek, Wis., formerly of Sand Creek, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Barron Medical Center.

She was born July 22, 1928, to William and Maude (Studebaker) Winget at Eau Claire. She was raised in the Colfax/Sand Creek area and graduated from Colfax High School. She continued her education at Eau Claire Teacher's College.

She married Loyd Gustum on March 13, 1948, in Iowa. She taught school for about two years at Sand Creek.

She was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church of Running Valley, rural Colfax. She enjoyed sewing and loved family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are sons, Kim (Deanne) of Chippewa Falls, Harlan (Brenda) of the Town of Sioux Creek, Barron County, and Joe (Pat) of New Auburn; grandchildren, Kirk, Matthew, Greg, Jim, Angie, Katrina, Andrea, Melissa, Jennifer, Nathan, Aaron, Crystal, Elizabeth, Alison, and Jonathon; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Boyd (Elaine) and Earl (Betty) Winget, both of Colfax; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Jan. 14, 1982; a son, Brian; brothers, Kenneth and Merrill Winget; and a sister, Elaine Barber.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, from Faith Lutheran Church of Running Valley, Rev. Mark Skogerbo officiating, with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Sand Creek.
