Death of Mrs. Bixby

Mrs. Judson A. Bixby passed away Sunday afternoon, November 28, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Angus Murray. Emner Miller was the daughter of Levi Miller and Mary Ann Scott Miller, being the last surviving member of a family of ten children. She was born November 9, 1832, at Orange, Steuben Co., New York, her parents being among the first settlers of that county. January 10, 1856, she was united in marriage to Judson A. Bixby at Monterey. The bride and groom settled in Hornby, New York where they resided until 1870, when they moved west establishing their new home in Sauk Center, Minnesota. There they remained until they came to Brainerd in 1881. Their long residence has made them well and favorably known in this community.
Mrs. Bixby's family consisted of six daughters, two of whom, Mrs. L. P. White and Mrs. W. J. Davenport, are deceased. Those who remain to mourn her departure are: Mrs. H. C. Hughey, Mrs. Angus Murray, Mrs. G. C. Hepperly of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. M. G. Cameron. Her loss will also be keenly felt by her twelve grandchildren and by her great-grandchildren of whom there are three. Mrs. Bixby's death will rest most heavily upon the heart of the husband whose companion she has been thru so many years. The entire family has the warm sympathy of a host of friends in this their hour of bereavement.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P. M. at the house, and at the First Baptist church at 2:30 P. M. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch 30 November 1909, p. 3)

The funeral services of Mrs. Emner Bixby were conducted by the Rev. Hilton of the Baptist church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p. m., assisted by Rev. W. Smith, and she was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. The services at the grave were made more impressive by the four youngest grandchildren casting roses into the grave. The pall bearers were J. A. Wilson, Geo. Bane, John Cameron, R. K. Whitely, Con O'Brien and E. M. Phelps. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 02 December 1909, p. 2)
