The announcement of the death of Mrs. W. J. Davenport on Saturday morning last was a shock to the community. Death resulted from the effects of premature [childbirth] confinement, and was so sudden that the immediate members of the lady's family could not be apprised of her illness until she had passed away. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bixby of this city, and a highly estimable lady. Mr. and Mrs. Davenport had been married seven years and the result of the union was two children aged three and six years, who now with the bereaved father are left to mourn her death. Funeral services were held from the Episcopal church on Sunday afternoon and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. Mr. Davenport has the sympathy of the community in his sad bereavement. (Brainerd Dispatch, 18 October 1889, p. 4, c. 6)
