Mildred was the daughter of the late Howard Bott, Jr. and Annette Bartholomew Bott. She was the wife of the late Fred Tolson.
Mildred moved to Morganton in 1945 from Massachusetts. In the mid-1950's, she became the Society Editor for the Morganton newspaper, the News Herald, and was also a popular columnist. She attended Grace Episcopal Church in Morganton. When her health failed, she moved to Arkansas to live with her son.
She was survived by two sons and a daughter, and by a stepson and a stepdaughter; also by five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
