Mildred moved to Morganton in 1945 from Massachusetts. In the mid-1950's, she became the Society Editor for the Morganton newspaper, the News Herald, and was also a popular columnist. She attended Grace Episcopal Church in Morganton. When her health failed, she moved to Arkansas to live with her son.
She was survived by two sons and a daughter, and by a stepson and a stepdaughter; also by five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
