Mr. Alton Omelina, 85, of Latexo passed away Saturday March 24, 2012, in Crockett, Texas. Mr. Omelina was born on June 12, 1926 to the late Paul and Katherine Planovsky Omelina on the Omelina family home place located on the Halls Bluff Road. Mr. Omelina was a first generation American. His parents left Czechoslovakia for a better life in America. They settled outside Crockett and worked in the coal mines between Crockett and Lovelady. Mr. Omelina often told stories about his life and how he taught himself to speak and read the English language. Sometimes he would speak Czech to amuse his younger nieces and nephews.

Mr. Omelina served his county proudly during WWII in the US Army. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Crockett to help his family. On December 23, 1954 he married his sweetheart Tirmie Cook. Mr. Omelina worked for Knox Motor and Implements as a mechanic, upon moving to Houston he begin working for Semco Engineering where his brother-in-law Doyle Cook taught him to read blueprints, for the jobs in production. Mr. Omelina was known for his a sweet and kind heart; he could always see the good in everyone.

Survived by his niece, Joni Clonts of Crockett; cousins, Mrs. Jane Omelina Sexton of Crockett and Mickey Omelina McCaughey of Corsicana; nephews, Ronnie Omelina wife, Janis Lynn, Mike Omelina wife, Mary and Donald Omelina all of Crockett and a host of family and friends.

Preceded in death by wife of 54 years, Tinnie Cook Omelina, his parents, Paul and Katherine Planovsky Omelina; brothers and sisters, Stephen Omelina, George Omelina, Susie Omelina Patiska and Rosalee Omelina Gilson.

Funeral Services for Mr. Alton Omelina will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Good Shepherd Fellowship Church in Crockett, Texas with Brother Ottis Byers officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Porter Springs Cemetery next to his wife.
