William Lomax Esq (Lawyer of Abbeville) was born in 1781. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. After graduating he read law in the office of John C Calhoun in Abbeville and practiced his profession in Abbeville for the rest of his life. He was one of the representatives from Abbeville County in the Legislature in the exciting times of Nullification in 1831. He himself was opposed to “Nullification”. He ranked high in his profession and was a “scholar and a gentleman.

He married Eliza Tennent of Charleston, a descendant of the distinguished Patriot of the Revolution, the Rev William Tennent.

William Lomax was a Methodist. He died in May 1834. He and his wife had: Harriet, Col James William and General Tennent Lomax – all born in Abbeville.
