John was born on July 24, 1881 at Pluckala, in Ulvila, Isokyro Parish, Finland to Thomas Juhonpoika Blixt and Maria Iisakintytär Maijala. John (along with two of his brothers Thomas and Jacob) were miners. John worked for the Minnie-Healy and Anaconda Mines. John married his first wife Susanna Kymberg in 1901 in Butte, Silver Bow, Montana. The marriage lasted 3 years until a turn of events and the marriage was disolved after one child - Hilma Blixt (Hilma Boriin/Pearl Marie Sorenson). John went on to marry Lena Mattila and raised children of their own until his untimely death in April 3, 1920 from tuberculosis when my Grandmother was 18 years old.

The gravestone for John and other family members were purchased by John's daughter Hillia. The middle initial "A" on his tombstone was incorrect. Another family member believed his middle name was Charles. Also incorrect. Inspection of the Finnish Parish records finally solved the longstanding mystery. John's middle name was Gustaf.
