Birth: 1st of three known children in Pennsylvania, most likely Franconia, Montgomery county (?).

Census: 1850, age 4 Franconia, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania with parents & two younger siblings, father a mason.

Census(Canada): 1861, age 16 Township of Waterloo, Waterloo county, Ontario, Canada with parents, younger sister & John C Buchanan whose signature is vertically at far right side with Preston written below, he a school teacher and single, father a mason.


Census: 1870, age 38(sic) Negaunee, Marquette county, Michigan with husband & five Canadian born children, at Fourth near Bluff, hubby an editor of Marquette Weekly Plain Dealer.

~ family removed to what became Le Mars, Plymouth county, Iowa, husband pioneering its first newspaper Le Mars Sentinel 3 FEB 1871, owning the two story building in which it operated on second floor, where the Mickley hotel later stood. He was among charter members in 1873 of Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Census: 1880, age 35 Le Mars, Plymouth county, Iowa , "The Ice Cream Capital of the World", with husband & seven children, hubby an editor.

~ they sold the Le Mars Sentinel newspaper then legally, under son's name husband started the Despatch which was not a success so after some thirteen years and birth of five more children removed to Springfield, Sangamon county, Illinois, around 1884, where its said husband bought a third interest in the Illinois State Republican but was "squeezed out" later, so removed to Pittsburg, Crawford county, Kansas around 1889.

~ City Directory, 1890, Pittsburg, Kansas: "The Pittsburg Kansan – By J. C. Buchanan, editor and proprietor; issued weekly; Democratic in politics. Office 116 E. Third Street."

Census(Kansas): 1895, age 51 Pittsburg, Crawford county, Kansas with husband & seven children.

Death: in Pittsburg, Crawford county, Kansas, the day before her son, with a double funeral held Saturday.
