He was born June 22, 1921, in Bandon to Henry Ray and Sarilda Jane Blankenship Richardson. He married Violet Brisbin on June 24, 1973, in Reedsport. She died March 19, 2002.
He graduated from Reedsport High School in 1940. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II on the USS Trinity and the USS Kalanin Bay. He spent most of his career as a painter for the city of Reedsport.
Survivors include four sons, Hank Potter of Medford, John Richardson of Sacramento, Calif., Mark Richardson of Scottsburg and Daniel Brisbin of Oregon City; and a daughter, Barbara Anderson of Reedsport. A son, Roy Potter, died in 2002 and a daughter, Jeanne Brisbin Pinckney, died in 2008.
