VERNON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OBITUARY ARTICLE: Obituary - John Parr
John Parr was born November 18, 1841, in Athens county, Ohio, came to Vernon county in 1861, where he resided until his death, which occurred October 19, 1913. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Appleman in 1867, who passed away July 5, 1900. To this union were born 9 children, 3 boys and 6 girls, Charlie, Cora, Nellie, Janie, Mary, Jesse, Arthur, Grace, and Bessie, all living except Mary and Nellie. He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his children, 2 sisters, Sarah Appleman of this place and Jane Moore of Kansas, 2 brothers, Chancy of LaFarge and Elias of Salem Ridge, 47 grandchildren, 21 great grand children, besides many other relatives and friends. Mr. Parr had been a sufferer for years, although not confined to his bed until the last two weeks. Funeral services and interment were held at Sugar Grove church by Rev. Burrows, October 21.
Relatives wish to thank those who so kindly assisted during the sickness and death of deceased.

John Parr came to the town of Clinton, in 1867, bought a farm of Martin Flemming and James Wagner, and settled on section 33. He has been a resident of the county since 1860. He was born in Muskingum Co., Ohio and is a son of Thomas Parr. He married Mary, daughter of Jesse Appleman. She was born in Perry Co., Ohio, and accompanied her father to Vernon county in 1855. They have seven children living - Charles E., Cora E., Nellie C., Beulah J., Jesse J., Arthur O. and Gracie P. One daughter, Mary E., is dead. Mr. Parr's farm contains eighty acres, on which he has made various improvements.
